Empowering Change Through Narrative Theory

Our experiences shape the stories we tell ourselves about who we are. Narrative Therapy helps you explore those stories, recognize your strengths and consider new perspectives that better reflect your values and possibilities.

What is Narrative Theory?

In psychology, narrative theory reminds us that every person is the author of their own story. The way we make sense of our lives—our struggles, triumphs, and everything in between—is shaped by the narratives we craft. These stories are powerful: they help us understand who we are, where we've come from, and where we're headed. Narrative therapy gently invites individuals to look at their stories with curiosity and compassion, opening up new possibilities for growth, healing, and self-acceptance.

How Is Narrative Theory Used in Counseling?

At Connecting Point Counselling, narrative theory is used as a powerful and compassionate tool to help clients discover new possibilities for their lives. There is a deep belief that everyone’s story matters—and that by understanding and reshaping these stories, people can experience real change and renewed hope.

Clients are listened to deeply, with their unique voices and experiences honored at every step. Guidance is given with empathy, respect, and genuine care, supporting individuals as they explore the narratives that may be holding them back. Together, therapist and client look for alternative perspectives and new meanings that highlight personal strengths, values, and growth.

Through narrative therapy, Mary empowers her clients to become the authors of their own futures. The process supports individuals in rewriting their stories to reflect resilience, courage, and possibility. Every session is a safe, supportive space where clients feel truly heard and valued—laying the foundation for lasting healing and meaningful transformation.
